Trenchless in Marysville, Ohio: Water Reclamation Facility Completed
“When the job was completed, all parties were pleased with the project success.”
– Jake Keegan, Project Manager, Super Excavators
The City of Marysville, Ohio, embarked on a major wastewater infrastructure upgrade to meet the needs of its growing population and industrial contributors, including Scotts Miracle-Gro, Nestle, Goodyear, and Honda. Recognizing the long-term benefits of reducing lift stations and increasing system reliability, the City initiated the Trunk Interceptor Project, a $35 million investment in wastewater conveyance. Designed by DLZ of Columbus, Ohio, the project leveraged trenchless technology to navigate challenging site conditions, minimize disruption, and optimize cost efficiency. The choice of microtunneling and other trenchless methods proved advantageous, particularly in areas with potential contamination, deep installations, and limited easement access.
Super Excavators, Inc. successfully installed 20,500 linear feet of 60-inch diameter pipe, with 14,000 feet placed using microtunneling. Hobas Pipe USA provided the jacking pipe, allowing for efficient installation with minimal jacking loads. The use of fiberglass-reinforced polymer mortar (FRPM) pipe contributed to cost savings due to its ease of installation and durability. Rigorous testing confirmed the integrity of the installed pipeline, with no joint leaks detected during inspections. “When the job was completed, all parties were pleased with the project success,” said Jake Keegan, Project Manager with Super Excavators.
